HOUSEHOLD MOLD
All
of
us
face
a
variety
of
risks
to
our
everyday
health,
as
we
go
about
our
daily
lives.
Some
of
us
choose
to
accept
these
problems,
because
to
do
otherwise
would
restrict
our
ability
to
lead
our
lives
the
way
we
want
to.
Some
risks
you
might
decide
to
avoid,
if
you
had
the
opportunity
to
make
informed
choices.
Household
mold
is
a
topic
of
discussion.
The
one
risk
that
you
can
do
something
about
is
indoor
air
pollution.
The
EPA
recently
stated
that
a
growing
body
of
scientific
evidence
has
indicated
that
the
air
within
our
houses
and
other
buildings
can
be
a
more
serious
health
concern
than
the
outdoor
air,
even
in
the
most
industrialized
cities.
Environmental
consultants
acknowledge
that
people
spend
85
to
90%
of
their
time
indoors.
People
who
are
exposed
for
the
longest
period
of
time
are
more
susceptible
to
the
effects
of
indoor
air
pollution.
The
young,
elderly,
chronically
ill,
pregnant
women,
our
pets,
and
people
with
respiratory
health
symptoms
are
the
most
affected.
One
of
the
very
first
symptoms
of
bad
indoor
air
quality
is
the
watering
and
itching
of
the
eyes
and
one
of
the
first
clues
is
a
musty
smell.
What
causes
indoor
air
problems?
Combustion
sources,
such
as
oil,
gas,
kerosene,
smoke,
secondhand
smoke,
building
materials,
detergents,
asbestos
containing
insulation,
wet
or
damp
carpet,
mold
and
black
mold,
and
certain
pressed
wood
products.
How
hazardous
these
emissions
are
depends
on
how
much
a
given
pollutant
emits.
For
example,
an
improperly
adjusted
gas
stove
can
emit
significantly
more
Carbon
Monoxide
than
one
that
is
properly
adjusted.
Other
sources
include
unventilated
stoves,
furnaces,
washer,
dryers,
and
space
heaters,
which
requires
constant
monitoring.
What
can
you
do
about
it?
Correct
the
problem
or
remove
the
source
of
the
polluted
air
and
use
HEPA
Air
Cleaners
to
clean
99.7%
of
the
air.
Health
Care
Providers
are
using
HEPA
Air
Cleaners
in
hospitals
and
waiting
rooms
to
keep
their
air
clean.
