 MOLD REMOVAL
The
identification
and
removal
of
toxic
black
mold
must
be
expedited
if
visible
areas
are
multiplying,
which
means
they
are
viable
and
prone
to
spreading
into
all
areas
of
the
house
or
business.
Trained
Hazmat
workers
under
negative
air
conditions
should
only
undertake
mold
removal
of
any
toxic
or
allergenic
nature.
The
work
area
must
be
securely
enclosed
with
6-mil
polypropylene.
During
the
course
of
a
mold
removal
project,
all
grave
(wasted)
material
must
be
removed
and
bagged
for
disposal
in
a
contained
area.
Particular
attention
must
be
given
to
the
penetration
depth
of
the
mold
spores.
If
they
are
more
than
3/16”
deep,
it
is
probably
more
expedient
to
remove
the
material.
Before
mold
removal,
make
sure
that
workers
are
not
disturbing
asbestos-containing
materials
or
lead-based
paint.
Contractors
must
follow
lead
safe
practices
if
the
structure
was
built
before
1978.
If
a
building
or
unit
was
built
before
1964,
the
contractor
should
assume
that
the
unit
has
some
lead
hazard.
If
the
above-referenced
conditions
exist,
then
the
materials
must
be
characterized
(T-clipped)
and
disposed
of
in
a
designated
hazardous
waste
facility.
