 MOLD
There
are
literally
hundreds
of
thousands
of
species
of
mold
according
the
EPA.
Some
are
potential
toxigenic
mold
and
others
are
potential
water
indicator
molds.
The
following
are
just
a
few
of
the
most
common
ones:
·
Aspergillus
is
one
of
the
more
common
indoor
molds
and
it
has
small
round
spores,
which
tends
to
colonize
continuously
in
damp
materials,
such
as
damp
wallboard
and
fabrics.
It
has
a
musty
odor
and
smell
and
is
considered
very
allergenic.
·
Cladosporium
is
a
water
indicator
mold
that
continuously
colonizes
and
is
one
of
the
most
prevalent
molds
found
in
the
house.
The
spores
readily
aerate
and
stay
suspended
for
extended
periods
of
time.
They
are
considered
an
ongoing
health
risk
to
susceptible
people
and
can
often
be
detected
by
smell.
·
Fusarium
is
a
common
soil
fungus
that
is
found
on
a
wide
variety
of
plants,
wallboard,
humidifiers,
and
drip
pans.
·
Penicillium
is
a
small
round
spore
commonly
found
in
house
dust
on
water-damaged
wallpaper,
behind
paint,
and
in
decaying
fabrics.
·
Rhizopus
is
reported
to
be
an
allergenic
that
may
cause
mucorosis
in
immune
compromised
individuals.
It
is
linked
to
occupational
allergic
symptoms.
·
Stachybotrys
is
the
notorious
toxic
black
mold
that
continuously
colonizes
wet
materials,
such
as
soaked
wallboard
and
humidifiers,
and
drips
pans.
Note:
not
all
black
molds
are
Stachybotrys.
It
should
be
noted
that
lawyers
bring
up
the
subjects
of
Aspergillus
and
Stachybotrys
black
mold
the
most
often
in
mold
litigation.
